Sure, the Coronavirus pandemic has totally changed our daily lives, but despite the chaos and the uncertainty, there’s one thing that we can all agree on: we’re all in this together. We’re all waiting kind of patiently, for the world to re-open and to get back to our favourite bars, restaurants, and hotels - but with no end in sight just yet many of you have been asking ‘how can I help now?’

Since the beginning of the outbreak, businesses, Expats and strangers alike have come up with a variety of community-loving concepts to help support their friends and neighbours in need. Whether you’re still based on our beautiful island or looking to support from afar, here are a few of our favourite initiatives -

Help to Feed a Family in Bali

With a large percentage of the population being dependent on tourism, many locals are struggling to find an income.

Tresna Bali Cooking School has begun an incredible donation-based project which we can all get behind. For just USD$25 or IDR 400,000 you can help to create Care Packages for local families in need. With the money raised, they’re sourcing all ingredients from local farmers markets and delivering them to the families with enough produce to feed each family for a full two weeks.

For more information on how to donate, head to their Instagram.

With their business closed for over a month, Ashari Bali is also helping to feed families in need. Kita Peduli (meaning “we care”) has been created to support those who need it most with free nutritious meals for the community. With each meal costing approximately IDR 5,000 - 7,500 (0.50c - 0.75c), every donation can help to make a difference.

If you’d like to get involved, check out their Instagram

Project Nasi is a charity-based project by Australian entrepreneurs who have businesses in Bali to give back to the community that supports them. Through a gofundme page, they’re able to purchase rice, groceries and sanitary products from local suppliers, helping to keep the businesses that have supported them afloat, while reaching out to help those most in need.

If you would like to help Project Nasi check out their gofundme page.

This month, the much-loved Sea Circus are celebrating their 10th birthday. Rather than have one of their famous parties, they’ve decided to focus on giving back. Every day between 11 am–4 pm, people and families in need can go and collect food packages to help get them through the day.

Support Local Farmers

Due to the sudden drop in demand, many farmers are struggling to make a living. Yes, you can buy your fruits and veggies from the supermarket but right now in Bali, helping out local farmers can make a huge difference. For this reason, several businesses have kick-started initiatives to connect you with local growers. Each day, you can order fresh produce straight from the farms, bridging the gap between growers and consumers with fresh, safe deliveries direct to your doorstep.

Here are some that we love -

  • Go Vegan Bali - To order some farm-fresh produce, Whatsapp Go Vegan Bali on +62-878-5112-3392.
  • Vegetable Bali - To order delicious local produce, head to their website
  • Compass Fresh builds the bridge between you, Bali’s farmers and local businesses. Check out their website to shop now.

Other Community Initiatives That We Love

One of our fave spots The Lawn Canggu has been handing out takeaway hamper boxes to anyone in need, filled with tasty local dishes. They’re encouraging those who need support during these times to head down every Friday lunchtime between 12 pm – 2 pm and enjoy a free meal.

The Koop Roaster & Cafe are showing their support by offering any medical carers helping to battle the coronavirus pandemic a tasty cup of coffee free of charge. For anyone else ordering more than 100k worth of coffee, you can pass on your free delivery to a medical carer.

Everyone’s favourite plant-based paradise Kynd Cafe are donating a minimum of $15aud from the purchase of every GIVE CAFE plant-based Indonesian recipe e-book sold, to help locals in these difficult times. Check out the link here

The Good Food Brotherhood together with The Practice Bali Yoga have reopened their venues to give back to those in need. If you’re in need of support, head down to Ulekan Bali every Wednesday from 12 noon and enjoy a free (and delicious!) Nasi Bungkus. If you would like to get involved check out the link here.
