If you’re constantly keeping up to date with Bali as much as we are, you probably would have heard the amazing news last week—and no, it’s not the opening of a new beach club.

Our favourite island paradise has officially banned all single use plastic bags, straws, and polystyrene on 23 June 2019. This is a huge step towards reducing environmental waste in Bali, on land and in the ocean.

The happiest of the lot to receive the news were, in particular, two young sisters, Melati and Isabel Wijsen, co-founders of Bye Bye Plastic Bags. These girls launched the plastic-free initiative in 2013 and have since inspired other changemakers on the island to join the movement. Today, Bye Bye Plastic Bags have gone global in 40 locations led by incredible youth leaders.
