At The Bali Bible we are always striving to bring you the best, most current, first hand travel recommendations from our team on the ground. So when rumours began to stir that Mt Agung was active again we decided to take matters into our own hands! With the help of Air Bali we climbed 10,000ft in the air to the summit to have a look at this controversial crater.

Mt Agung raised alarm bells in September by giving us a show of tremors and smoke attracting the highest level of volcano alert that forced 140,000 people to evacuate the nearby area. The alert was downgraded in February 2018. However with the recent volcanic activity at Mount Merapi, (Indonesia's most active volcano in Central Java), the rumours of eruptions have been circling yet again.

Aboard a sexy Air Bali chopper, The Bali Bible team soared over the spectacular East Coast of Bali from the helipad in Benoa Harbour. We climbed the gradient of Mt Agung until we penetrated the clouds and reached the crater.

Now we’re not volcanologists...we leave that to the experts. But as you can see from the image taken by our team the volcano seems to be at peace for now. No smoke, ash or turmoil.

What we did see was vivid valleys filled with luscious jungle. Traditional agricultural villages dotted high up in the mountains and Bali’s biggest lake, Lake Kintamani which sparkled with emerald hues. There really is so much more magic to explore away from the usual tourist hot spots.

After exploring Mr Batur and Mt Agung by air, we soared over the stunning Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where luminous green terraces cascade onto each other and lively beds of green extend infinitely. With our love of Bali reinvigorated we would like to say that Bali is safe, alive and ready to welcome more tourists than ever.

The Bali Bible team took  Mount Agung, Mount Batur, Lake Kintamani & Tanah Lot Temple Tour. Air Bali is the first dedicated helicopter service in Bali offer a number of different flight experiences and are also veterans of wedding proposals…! Find out more below!
